Size standard of safety handrail
1. Safety handrail height

①The height of safety handrails in air-connected areas such as balconies or verandas must exceed the height of the center of gravity of the human body, so as to prevent the human body from falling due to unstable center of gravity when approaching the handrails. According to relevant regulations, the height of the safety handrail shall not be less than 1.05 meters for the height below 24M; and the height of the safety handrail shall not be less than 1.1 meters for the height above 24M.

②The width of the bottom of the safety handrail stairs should be ≥0.22M, and the height of each stepable part should be ≤0.45M. According to the situation of an adult stepping, it can be easier to step on and stand. Therefore, we let the height of the top surface of the safety handrail be higher than the height of the center of gravity of the person, and it should be calculated from the top surface of the stepable part.

2. Safety handrails and stairs cannot be left empty at a height of 0.1M from the ground or roof.

3. If it is in residential areas, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, the safety handrails must be constructed to prevent teenagers from climbing. When using vertical rods as stairs, the distance between the rods should be less than 0.11m.

4. The height of the safety stair handrail is also different in indoor and outdoor public areas. For the indoor environment, the height from the front edge of the step should not be less than 0.9M; for outdoor, the height of the safety handrail should not be less than 1.05M.

5. When the width of the safety handrail stairwell is greater than 0.2M, the distance between the vertical bars of the handrail is less than 0.11M, in order to prevent children from falling when they should climb.

6. The net width of the safety handrail stair platform should be at least 1.10M apart from the width of the stairs.

7. The width of the ladder section of the safety handrail is clearly stipulated in the residential design, and must meet the requirements of fire evacuation in emergency situations. In public buildings, the width of the safety handrail is usually too large, so the relationship between the width of the stairs should be considered when setting the safety handrail. If the width of the stairs meets three streams of people, handrails should be installed on both sides; if it meets four streams of people, handrails should be added on both sides and in the middle.
